The Sharks

This team dates back to 1890 and was known as 'The Banana Boys' in the early days, due to the farming of bananas in the province.

Their home groundis in Durban at Kings Park Stadium, known as 'The Shark Tank', with a seating capacity of 52000.

In 1993 they competed in the opening Super Rugby competition as The Sharks and in the last 4-5 years have become one of the teams 'to beat'.

They were also the first South African team to feature in a final of the Super Rugby competition.

Many excellent players have come from this province most notably, John Smit who captained the Springboks to their second World Cup win.
